One of my prayers for myself and for my family is that we would do right immediately, without procrastination or delay. I don’t want to have delayed obedience.
This might look like stopping to help someone in need on the highway, or seeing a friend or anyone around us in need and helping or doing something to meet that need. This also might look like sponsoring a missionary, helping an orphan, or giving extra to a need or cause at your church.
What if you are doing good, and have been, and have been asking for results for a long time?
Maybe our motive is wrong. Maybe our prayer and what we are wanting is selfish. What is something you’ve prayed for over and over again now or in the past? What was your motivation for praying for that? If God answers that prayer, will it help you love Him more or love others around you more? Is it a prayer that is seeking His Kingdom or your kingdom?
Maybe what you are asking for is a great request. But please make sure your motive is not self-serving, based on envy or jealousy, or seeking things of this world.
I read this scripture today and love it…
“Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.”
James 1:2-4 HCSB
Keep moving forward in what God has you doing. Keep asking God with consistency and never stop praying to God. Always be rejoicing and praying!
Your enduring faith produces more endurance and that is something God is doing in you to make you mature and complete, lacking nothing!
It’s not a spouse, a new car, a new house, a new status or accomplishment, a new title at work, a new rung on the ladder, a pool, an adventure, a week off, a different stage of life, a certain president, a specific answered prayer, a boyfriend or girlfriend, a recognition, or anything else that will complete you. What will complete you? Faithfulness and endurance in doing good and asking for help from God, believing in Him!
“Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. An indecisive man is unstable in all his ways.”
James 1:5-8 HCSB
Ask for wisdom. Do not doubt but ask in complete faith and dependence. Don’t be indecisive but trust God. God is God. He can do it all. He can complete you!
“A man who endures trials is blessed because when he passes the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.”
James 1:12 HCSB
If you are in a trial, if you are asking for something and haven’t seen the answer yet, if you are working hard and don’t yet see the fruit you’ve been praying for, keep enduring. If you have been addicted to something, been a slave to anything other than Jesus Christ, been in debt to anything other than loving others, keep enduring! Keep it up. Don’t stop. Don’t give up!
May God work it out in and through you and may you be complete, mature, lacking nothing.
God loves you! Be reconciled to Him.
